Now available: Smart phone apps for bus and trolley arrival times

GO! texting has become a huge success for the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) with more than 4,600 people texting MTS to receive next arrival information every day.

MTS, along with its partner MIS Sciences, has now launched smart phone applications to make arrival times even easier to receive. Riders can now get arrival times for their bus or Trolley via the MTS GO! application for iPhone, Android and Blackberry smart phones.

These apps are free to download and use. They provide all the same real-time or scheduled-time arrival information you receive by texting, but through a simple-to-use app. After downloading the free MTS GO! app, the rider just enters the stop identification number into the app to receive the next-arrival time. Apps are available from the iPhone App Store and Android Market. For the Blackberry App, go to www.sdmts.com/go_app.asp.

Most bus stop signs and all trolley stops throughout the MTS system now have decals that include individual stop identification numbers. Riders can also find stop identification numbers online at www.sdmts.com or on Google Maps.

Riders can also continue to text to receive bus and trolley arrival times. Simply text the stop number to GOMTS (46687) and receive next-arrival times on their cell phone. Standard texting rates may apply.

MTS and MIS Sciences are working to make improvements to the GO! app that include finding a bus stop based on your GPS location, searching for bus stops by route, saving your frequently-used and recently-used stop numbers and sending riders service alerts on their phone.
