Bloomington-Normal’s Ninth Annual Stuff-the-Bus Event Rolls to Record Results

Dec. 21, 2011
Spurred on by a generous kick-off donation by AT&T of $10,000 and a new Samsung Galaxy Tab, the Bloomington-Normal community proceeded to stuff a Bloomington Normal Public Transit System (BNPTS) bus with thousands of items that will be used over the coming year by the Crisis Nursery to help children ages 6 and under who stay at the nursery during times of need.

The ninth annual Stuff the Bus event for the Children’s Home + Aid Crisis Nursery recorded its best year ever in 2011.

2011 also marked the first year that BNPTS partnered with the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 752 to promote the Stuff the Bus effort and staff the bus at donation sites throughout the community.

“This event provides the Crisis Nursery with enough supplies to take care of children in need for an entire year,” said Mick Farrell, president of the ATU Local 752. “The members of Local 752 were excited to take a lead role in the event and achieve record donations this year.”

“The Bloomington Normal Public Transit System was proud to once again take part in supporting the important work of the Children’s Home + Aid Crisis Nursery,” said Andrew Johnson, BNPTS general manager. “And this year we were especially happy to work in partnership with the ATU Local 752, whose help no doubt made this the best Stuff the Bus event ever.”
