MBCR Partners with Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund for Day of Letter Writing

Sept. 13, 2011
As part of their 9/11 Service Project to Support Our Troops & Military Families of Massachusetts, they were collecting letters and care packages to send to Massachusetts troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Company partnered with Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund (MMHF) and organized a day of letter writing to troops overseas at its two main terminal hubs — Boston's North Station and South Station.

More than 100 patrons of the two terminals, stopped to write letters of support for local service men and women — expressions of appreciation; updates on local sports teams; and even notes about the weather — which will go a long way in brining comfort and gratitude to soldiers overseas.

MMHF is "an organization dedicated to providing support, programs and services to" service members and their families. As part of their 9/11 Service Project to Support Our Troops & Military Families of Massachusetts, they were collecting letters and care packages to send to Massachusetts troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Since the two terminals get a large amount of foot traffic, not just from commuter rail riders, but also Amtrak and bus customers, MBCR offered to host a letter writing programs there. MMHF will ensure that all the letter MBCR collected reach soldiers overseas.
