During the visit of a delegation from the Bagdad Mayoralty in Paris, the Mayoralty of Bagdad and SYSTRA have signed the contract for the design and tender services of the Bagdad Underground Metro Lines 1 and 2.

The project consists in the basic design, preparation of tender documents, and selection of EPC Contractor for two underground metro lines. Line 1 will be approximately 22 km long and Line 2 will be approximately 18 km long. There will be an average of one station per kilometre.

The underground metro project will be the backbone of future transport development in the Iraqi capital. The provision of an underground metro system will address growing transport needs and improve the worldwide perception of the city.

About 20 people will work on this project at SYSTRA's head office in Paris. The study is starting now and is due to last 18 months.
