Mexico's Puebla state government has started work on a bus rapid transit (BRT) system that will require an overall investment of 1.46bn pesos (US$104mn).

The 18.5km Metrobús line will operate 40 buses along 36 stations between Tlaxcalancingo and Chachapa, the state government said in a release.

National development bank Banobras will provide 394mn pesos, with the remainder coming from the state government and concession holders.

The BRT line is due to start operations in January 2013.
