Stepping aboard the New York metro this month will feel like stepping back in time for some passengers, thanks to a tie-up between HBO and the MTA, New York's transit authority.
Every weekend in September, an original carriage from the early 20th century will be rattling down the express 2/3 track in Manhattan, a move designed to promote the new season of hit TV show Boardwalk Empire.
The carriages were originally operated by the Interborough Rapid Transit system, nearly 100 years ago in 1917 and have been brought back into operation for restricted service, calling at 96th, 72nd, and Times Square-42nd street stations only.
Inside, passengers will find an authentic Prohibition-era carriage, complete with rattan seats, ceiling fans and drop sash windows.
The interior has also been decorated with artwork inspired by Broadwalk Empire, a period drama adapted from a book about Atlantic City racketeer Enoch 'Nucky' Johnson.
The new season airs on HBO from September 25, to coincide with the trains' final run for passengers, when brand ambassadors will also be giving away MetroCards for free travel.
