A collision between a suburban passenger train and a freight train locomotive in Istanbul on Tuesday left five people injured.

A tourist and a child were among the injured and many ambulances have been dispatched to the scene, the Turkish Dogan news agency reported.

The passengers had just alighted from a suburban passenger train traveling from the Istanbul suburb of Halkali to Sirkeci in central Istanbul when a freight train locomotive travelling on the wrong track crashed into the train at the Cankurtaran station.

No official statement has been issued yet, but allegations were made that the locomotive driver jumped off just before the crash.
