Blacksburg Transit (BT) has selected Brian Booth to be the new director of BT.

Booth, a native of Hardy, Va., and a 2007 Virginia Tech graduate, started his career as a bus operator and dispatcher with BT while in college at Virginia Tech.

After leaving BT in 2011, he stayed in the transit industry, assuming various leadership roles at New River Valley Community Services before ultimately becoming the manager overseeing all aspects of the transportation department, which included the operation of Radford Transit.

In 2017, Booth became the general manager of the Greater Lynchburg Transit Company in Lynchburg, Va.

Steve Ross, deputy town manager of Blacksburg, said, “Brian’s experience with fixed-route bus service, paratransit services, university relations and governmental agencies, along with demonstrated leadership abilities, makes him a perfect fit for the town of Blacksburg and BT.”

Since BT began service in 1983, more than 40 former employees have moved on to transit careers at other systems. Booth is the first to come back and lead the organization. His first day with Blacksburg Transit is Aug. 30, 2021.
