Bytemark names Emile Wiersma chief financial officer

March 11, 2021
Wiersma has worked in various roles in global and strategic finance for more than 20 years, most recently focusing on cloud solutions at Siemens Digital Industries Software.

Emile Wiersma has been appointed to chief financial officer for Bytemark; he succeeds Fleur Gessner, who held the position since July 2018.

Gessner will return to Europe and take a senior finance role within the Siemens Intermodal Mobility Solutions (IMS) group. Bytemark appreciates her leadership during a time of strategic changes, helping set the company on a growth path in the Mobility as a Service space.

Wiersma has worked in various roles in global and strategic finance for more than 20 years, most recently focusing on cloud solutions at Siemens Digital Industries Software. His experience includes financial management and operations of various SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) and information technology businesses. His global experience encompasses projects located in the Netherlands, Germany and South Africa, to name a few.

The Netherlands native understands the unique interests and value proposition of the Siemens Mobility family, having worked for Siemens for much of the past 14 years.

“Emile brings a wealth of relevant international experience to his new position as well as a strong SaaS structuring mindset. His insights, analytical skills and hands-on approach will help us strengthen the services we offer our customers and the support we provide for our partners,” said Eric Reese, CEO,  Bytemark. “We’re so thrilled to welcome Emile aboard as we continue to progress the rollout of Bytemark Bridge, our easy-to-implement Plan, Book & Play™ platform.”

From 2013 to 2017, Wiersma was Global Head of Controlling for AtoS in Germany. He also spent seven and a half years before that with Siemens, rising from project controller to business unit controller for Siemens IT Solutions and Siemens Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS).

“Keeping Emile within the family benefits Bytemark and Siemens as we further expand the offering of our world-class MaaS solutions that draw on our combined strengths to help agencies and riders around the world,” said Andreas Dittman, chief financial officer at Siemens IMS.

Adding Wiersma to the team fosters the continued innovation that allows Bytemark to deliver new transit, parking, and MaaS solutions for a growing roster of clients and distinguished partners.

“Bytemark exceeded our expectations in 2020 in both sales and revenues, despite the challenges of the pandemic. The smooth transition from Fleur to Emile allows us to maintain that growth while expanding our leadership team’s skillsets as we push to make travel more equitable and accessible for riders,” said Reese. “We are in a better place because of Fleur’s leadership and steady focus, which helped us become a larger part of the Siemens family. She has become a valued friend and advisor to many at Bytemark. While we will miss her, we are excited for her to take the next step in her career in Europe, and we wish her much success with future endeavors.”

Gessner will return to Europe after supporting Wiersma through a transition period that started earlier this year.
