International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA) President Samuel Johnson has been named CEO of the Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA) in Irvine, Calif.

“IBTTA applauds the appointment of Samuel Johnson as CEO of the Transportation Corridor Agencies in Irvine, Calif. Samuel has led TCA in unprecedent times – through a pandemic and a period of economic and social unrest. These challenges have not dimmed his energy, enthusiasm or optimism as he has led TCA,” said IBTTA Executive Director and CEO Pat Jones. “As IBTTA President, Samuel has advanced vital efforts to improve diversity, social and racial inclusion and has been a champion of helping young people enter the tolling industry through mentoring and internships.

“Some in our association call Samuel our ‘war time president.’ He inspires confidence while acting to serve and protect the safety of the commuting public in Orange County, the TCA staff and IBTTA members. Every day, Samuel lives his motto ‘Together,’ recognizing that we will all be more successful if we work together and serve each other.”

With his appointment, Johnson becomes the first person of color to hold the position at TCA and the highest-ranking Black leader in Orange County transportation, responsible for an annual average budget of nearly $400 million and investment portfolios in excess of $1.5 billion.
