Jeff Marootian Named DDOT Acting Director

The District Department of Transportation has introduced its new Acting Director Jeff Marootian.

The District Department of Transportation has introduced its new Acting Director Jeff Marootian. The Mayor announced Marootian’s appointment at DDOT's AlleyPalooza 6 kickoff. Marootian has been serving as interim director since August.

Marootian previously worked at DDOT from 2008-2011 as the customer service officer. He oversaw public engagement activities and managed relationships with ANC Commissioners and other city officials. He returned to the agency in March as deputy director and has been serving as interim director since August. Marootian rejoined DDOT from the U.S. Department of Transportation where he served under Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx from 2013-2017. He was appointed by President Barrack Obama to serve as the White House Liaison from 2013 to 2015 where he worked alongside the heads of the federal regulatory agencies to promote President Barack Obama’s transportation agenda. In 2015, Marootian was promoted to serve as the Department’s assistant secretary for Administration. In that capacity, he oversaw the management functions of the 55,000-employee agency, including human resources, facilities, procurement and security. He was also the Department’s chief sustainability officer.

Marootian has both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Public Administration from The George Washington University and has lived in the District of Columbia for 20 years.
