Lextran bus operator Mike Burnett won first place in the Pre-Trip Safety Inspection Challenge at the APTA International Bus Roadeo and Conference.

Lextran bus operator Mike Burnett won first place in the Pre-Trip Safety Inspection Challenge at the American Public Transportation Association International Bus Roadeo and Conference on Tuesday, May 8 in Tampa, Florida.

“It’s amazing to represent Lextran on a national scale,” said Burnett. “I do this not just for me, but for all of my fellow Lextran coworkers. The recognition lets others know that Lextran will continue to be a major player in the International Bus Roadeo for years to come.”

Burnett competed against 88 other bus operators from transit agencies across the country in the Pre-Trip Safety Inspection Challenge. This challenge directly reflects an important aspect of an operator’s job — inspecting the bus for safety prior to it leaving the bus garage and beginning service for the day.

Burnett also finished third out of 37 in the Customer Service Challenge and 18th out of 66 in the Bus Roadeo Challenge. The Bus Roadeo is a timed challenge during which the operators must navigate a 40-foot bus through a series of obstacles.

This is the fourth year Burnett has competed at the International Bus Roadeo and Conference.
