The Northern Arizona Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority’s (NAIPTA) transit and paratransit drivers get people where they need to go daily, and NAIPTA invited the Flagstaff community to join the agency in recognizing their efforts on Friday, March 17 for Transit Driver Appreciation Day.

For hours on end, transit drivers manage to keep a schedule, check fares, give directions, and announce stops, all while safely maneuvering an extra-large vehicle through unpredictable traffic, adverse weather conditions, and tight spaces. The fact is, transit drivers don’t have an easy job, they just make it look that way.

“Our Mountain Line and Mountain Lift drivers deserve recognition daily, but we are excited to celebrate them with our riders on Transit Driver Appreciation Day,” said NAIPTA CEO and General Manager Jeff Meilbeck. “Drivers are the heart and soul of our organization, and they serve on the front lines to get people in Flagstaff where they need to go.”

Mountain Line and Mountain Lift riders are encouraged to make an extra effort to show their appreciation on March 17. This can be as simple as a smile and a wave when you board the bus, or a “thank you” when riders leave. The Transit Driver Day website also has some cards that riders can print out and give to their favorite driver. However you choose to celebrate, just make sure your driver knows you appreciate their hard work
