Santa Clarita Transit Gives Back

Jan. 26, 2016
Local bus drivers and mechanics support their community.

The City of Santa Clarita contracts with MV Transportation to operate and maintain the City’s bus fleet. Santa Clarita Transit says that as the drivers and call-takers MV staff are the face of the company. They interact with residents daily, often on a first-name basis. Through their interactions, staff developed a desire to give back to the community, so each year they select a charity to support via donations and volunteer opportunities.

Recently MV Transportation contributed to Operation Warm Blanket, a blanket collection drive organized by the non-profit organization Prayer Angels for the Military. Blankets and other gifts of comfort were collected throughout the month of November and were mailed to Santa Clarita’s troops serving in the chilly weather of Iraq and Afghanistan, and also presented locally to veterans and hospitalized service men and women.

What’s more, MV driver Jerome Carillo and his daughter Brianna took it upon themselves to collect toy donations from fellow drivers and City staff to donate on behalf of Santa Clarita Transit at Combat Radio’s annual Breakfast with Santa charity event held at Salt Creek Grill. Brianna even donned a full Storm Trooper outfit in the spirit of the event. In prior years staff donated money to the Hart School District to supply students in need with transit passes, and has even worked directly with local schools to donate backpacks and other school supplies.

“City staff is proud to see our partner in transit operations continue to donate locally,” said transit manager Adrian Aguilar. “It shows a love for the job and a dedication to the community that really resonates with customers.”
