Vapor cleaning removes stains and grime, protects environment

Students now have a healthier ride since the Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Company (MBCR) adopted a new vapor sanitizing system to clean passenger coaches. To ensure the cleanest possible riding environment for its customers, MBCR – which runs the fifth largest commuter rail network in the United States – recently introduced a chemical-free steam vapor cleaning system to maintain its passenger coaches. This system safely removes grease, grime, stains and germs in a cost-effective manner without harming the environment.

MBCR serves student populations from several Boston-area colleges and private schools, and the move has been touted as good for students, business commuters and employees.

"Any time you can achieve effective cleaning and sanitization all while eliminating the use of hazardous chemicals, the end result is a win-win situation. The riders get a clean car while the workers are no longer exposed to hazardous chemicals," said Jason Marshall, lab director of the University of Massachusetts Toxics Use Reduction Institute (TURI).

"A sanitary, comfortable passenger coach is an essential part of a commuter's experience," said Richard A. Davey, general manager of MBCR. "The introduction of Advanced Vapor Technologies' proprietary steam vapor cleaning equipment into service will help us provide cleaner, fresher coaches for passengers during travel."

By using AVT's Mondo-VAP 2400 system, MBCR is able to utilize vapor cleaning technology, which eliminates bacteria, while using tap water. The cost effective system removes everything from old gum to stains that previously were impossible to remove. The system works on a wide range of materials, including vinyl, stainless steel, and plastic-type surfaces.
