This is the first of the model type to be added to a transit fleet in Maryland.

The TransIT Services of Frederick County (TransIT) added to its fleet a new electric bus manufactured by BYD Coach and Bus.

The 30-foot, fully electric bus if the first of its model type to join a transit fleet in the state of Maryland.

The BYD K7 30-foot bus fully charges in three to four hours and can run about 150 miles between charges. It also can operate in ambient temperatures between minus 20 degrees and 115 F. Running fully on battery power, the new electric bus is environmentally friendly and has zero tailpipe emissions.

Procurement of the new bus was possible due to grant funds from the Federal Transit Administration, the Maryland Transit Administration and the Maryland Energy Administration’s Smart Energy program.

The new bus will be in service in the coming weeks.
