ETS installs operator safety doors

Installation of the Vapor International-supplied safety shields will be completed in Fall 2020.

Edmonton Transit System (ETS), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, will soon complete installation of operator barrier shields on their fleet of more than 900 buses.

The safety protection doors, manufactured by Vapor Bus International, provides a critical defensive safety barrier for bus operators and can protect against physical assaults and unwanted passenger interactions. The heavy-duty door features a large, laminated safety glass that functions as a sneeze guard and an electric window that can be closed quickly and easily. The full-size, powered door helps maintain constant temperature in the cockpit area and includes two built-in, high-velocity fans for optimal air circulation. A unique, robust latch mechanism maintains positive contact and eliminates rattles.

ETS began the installation of the shields across the entire bus fleet on Oct. 7. The accelerated installation of shields is part of the roughly C$20 million (US$15.15 million) in Council-approved funding from last fall for further safety and security enhancements on transit.
