L.A. Metro to add new bus priority lanes along Florence Avenue from Blue Station to West Boulevard

Feb. 28, 2023
The new bus priority lanes are part of the Bus Speed Engineering Working Group, which is a collaborative effort between L.A. Metro and LADOT to speed up transit service as part of L.A. Metro’s NextGen Bus Plan.

Bus priority lanes along Florence Avenue are planned from the Florence A Line (Blue) Station to West Boulevard, near the K Line Fairview Heights Station, to improve the speed, frequency and reliability of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (L.A. Metro) Line 111 buses along the corridor. The new bus priority lanes are part of the Bus Speed Engineering Working Group, which is a collaborative effort between L.A. Metro and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) to speed up transit service as part of L.A. Metro’s NextGen Bus Plan.

The bus priority lanes will operate from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the mornings and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the late afternoon and early evening.

The current weekday No Parking restrictions for the unincorporated L.A. County portion of the project — from Central to the Florence A (Blue) Line Station — will be updated to the same hours to be consistent and keep buses reliable.

The Bureau of Street Services (StreetsLA) is now anticipated to begin resurfacing work along key segments of the western portion of Florence.

L.A. Metro staff will begin to finalize the project design and work toward opening the new lanes this coming fall.
