Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) has partnered with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) to install the final phase of bus priority lanes on Alvarado Street between the 101 freeway and Sunset Boulevard.

The initial phase of the project, from 7th Street to the 101, was completed in June 2021. Installation of the final section took place earlier this month, with LADOT restriping the curbside lanes, replacing existing signage and installing pavement markings for new bus priority lanes. Caltrans was also a key partner in the project.

Buses will use the southbound lanes during morning peak hours (7 a.m. to 10 a.m.) and the northbound lanes during afternoon peak hours (3 p.m. to 7 p.m.). These bus lanes are one of the many recommendations resulting from the Bus Speed Engineering Working Group, a collaborative effort between LA Metro and LADOT to speed up transit service as part of the NextGen Bus Plan.
