Bus ridership on the Omaha Metro Transit system saw a nearly 40-percent increase in ridership during its Bus to Ballot initiative Nov. 3.

Bus and MOBY paratransit services were fare-free for Election Day to help ensure that transportation was not a barrier to vote.

“We were happy to see our community taking transit to get to their polling places and pleased to have an opportunity to support the democratic process,” said Omaha Metro Transit CEO Lauren Cencic.

The agency provided 8,200 bus rides on Election Day, and saw a fifteen percent increase in MOBY paratransit trips.

This year marks Omaha Metro Transit's second “Bus to Ballot” initiative, following free rides for the 2016 election.
