Greater Dayton RTA Honors Military with Free Rides on Veteran’s Day

Nov. 6, 2015

All rides for active United States military members and veterans will be free on Wednesday, November 11, as the Greater Dayton RTA honors those who have served our country.  This free service includes fixed route buses anywhere throughout the Dayton transit system as well as rides on Project Mobility.

Anyone who is military active duty, discharged (DD-214), retired, reserve, or holds a VA identification card should show it to the driver upon boarding to receive a free ride on Veteran’s Day.

“This is just a small way to honor our veterans and to say ‘thank you’ for the sacrifice and commitment they have made for our country,” said Frank Ecklar, director of planning and marketing for RTA.

As a reminder to “Greenlight a Vet,” the RTA building at 3rd and Main streets will be flooded in green light the week of November 9 – 15.  “Greenlight a Vet” is an initiative to recognize the 250,000 military members returning back to civilian life each year.  The campaign is meant to create visible support and recognize their contributions when – back at home and no longer in uniform – they’re more camouflaged than ever.

To honor its own employee-veterans, RTA will host a flag-raising ceremony on Veteran’s Day at the bus facility on Longworth Street at precisely 11:11 a.m.
