MATS Announces Enhancements Just in Time for Veterans’ Day

Nov. 5, 2015

The Muskegon Area Transit System (MATS) will implement adjustments to its Harvey Route on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, to benefit area Veterans and travelers to and from the Muskegon County Airport (MKG).

Previously, bus rides to the VA Clinic, MKG and West Michigan Christian High School were on an on-call-only basis. Now, MATS will make hourly stops at previously established stops to these locations and to along Porter Road, between :05 and :09 minutes after the hour, Monday through Saturday.

Additionally, the stop at the VA Clinic has been relocated, moving it closer to the rear of the building on Airport Service Drive. This will make the walk from the facilities’ clinic door to the stop much shorter. A bus shelter and bench have been added to the stop to accommodate veterans and others waiting for the bus.

Fares for MATS’ service remain the same - Standard fares are $1.25, while Senior and Disabled fares are $.60. Veterans who qualify for the discount fare should either have their red, white, and blue Medicare card available to show the driver, or their MATS Discount Fare Card. Applications for the Discount Fare Card are available at many agencies throughout Muskegon County, including the VA Clinic.
