Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority (RGRTA) announced that Geoffrey Astles has been appointed to the RGRTA Board of Commissioners, effective July 1, 2015. Astles will serve a five-year term.
Astles joins the 14-member board, which establishes policy and sets direction for management of the Authority. Astles will represent RTS Ontario, RGRTA’s regional subsidiary in Ontario County. Astles was appointed to the board by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and confirmed by the New York State Senate.
Chairman of the RGRTA Board of Commissioners Jim Redmond said, "With his long career of public service, Geoff brings a wealth of management and planning experience to the Authority's Board of Commissioners. The interests of Ontario County and our customers there will be well represented."
Astles is actively involved in Ontario County, both as a resident and as a town representative. On Jan. 6, 2015, he was sworn in as the Town of Farmington’s Deputy Supervisor. From 1999 to 2011, he served as Ontario County’s longest-serving county administrator.
As Ontario County administrator, Astles was directly involved in the creation and development of the Ontario County transit system before the County eventually joined RGRTA in August 2014. Astles says, “I look forward to participating in the future development of transit services for Ontario County.”
Astles graduated from Otterbein University with degrees in History and Government. He is a graduate of Rush-Henrietta High School. His volunteer activities include the Finger Lakes Community College Projects Committee, the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee and the Ontario Children’s Fund.
Astles resides in Farmington, N.Y.
