GLTC Transfer Station Earns LEED Platinum Certification

June 11, 2015

Greater Lynchburg Transit Company's (GLTC) new Kemper Street Transfer Station has been awarded LEED Platinum certification. Opened in June of 2014, the facility features state-of-the-art design and has been recognized as an example of true multi-modal connectivity with outstanding services for the riders of the system.

This award makes the GLTC Transfer Station one of only a very few new construction LEED-Platinum rated facilities in Virginia and one of even fewer LEED-Platinum transit facilities on the east coast.

“I am so proud of the accomplishments of GLTC in obtaining this status, it reflects our ongoing mission to provide top quality service to our customers in an environmentally responsible and sustainable way. This award reflects the hard work of all those involved in the development and construction of the facility from start to finish, and ultimately serves to better the lives of residents and visitors of the City of Lynchburg and surrounding areas.” said Josh Baker, GLTC general manager. “This project reflects six years of work and truly sets a class-leading example within Region 2000, throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond.”

“Long-term benefits of this facility achieving this status will likely reflect significant cost savings for operations and ultimately a much smaller carbon footprint for the facility.”
