Collier Area Transit (CAT) was named the 2014 Outstanding System of the Year by the Florida Public Transit Association during the association’s 40th annual conference at the Naples Grande Beach Resort. The award honors a public transportation system that has demonstrated achievement in efficiency and effectiveness.

The award, which was given to Collier County on Tuesday, was based on the county’s score on quantitative data for three consecutive fiscal years and qualitative measures like safety enhancements, effective financial controls and efficiencies in operations procedures.

"I am honored that the Florida Public Transportation Association has selected Collier Area Transit for this award,” said Michelle Arnold, director of the county’s public transit and neighborhood enhancement department. “It is a testament to our dedicated staff who are committed to running a safe, efficient and customer-friendly transit system.”

In addition to the 2014 Outstanding System of the Year, CAT was also honored with three first place awards for marketing efforts in three areas: print, signage and graphic, and internal employee communications. They also received a second place award in the print collateral/advertising collateral category, and a third place award for bus safety.
