PRTC has been recognized for its work to develop and expand commuting options for those employed in the Prince William County area.
The Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission is best known for providing commuter and local bus services in the Prince William County area. However, the agency also promotes ridesharing via vanpools and carpools, and works with area employers to devise incentives for workers to leave their vehicles at home. A range of incentives are available but some popular ones include: ridematching assistance, preferred parking spots for those who carpool, installing showers to encourage biking, and offering telecommute options.
During the past year with a full-time sales staff equivalent to one representative, more than 1,200 contacts were made with employers within Prince William County and 13 meetings were held. As a result, PRTC added 35 new clients to its list of employers participating in one or more transportation demand management (TDM) programs.
“PRTC and its TDM employer outreach contractor, Urban Trans, have partnered together to make a real difference for those who work and own businesses in the Prince William area,” said Alfred Harf, PRTC Executive Director. “Those who work at companies that embrace TDM see a tangible benefit to these programs, and employers also benefit because they have a unique incentive that attracts quality talent.”
The Employer Services Sales Team Achievement Award was presented to PRTC in June by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments’ Commuter Connections program.
