In a unanimous vote, the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) board of directors named Michael P. Melaniphy to serve as its new president and chief executive officer effective November 1, 2011. Melaniphy will replace William Millar, who is retiring after 15 years as APTA president. Melaniphy's entire career has been in public transportation with 23 years of experience in the public and private sectors. Melaniphy, who is currently vice president Public Sector for bus manufacturer Motor Coach Industries Inc., has led public transit systems in North Carolina, Kansas, Ohio, and Texas.
Carole Coune has assumed the office of secretary general of the International Transport Forum at the OECD. The International Transport Forum at the OECD is a global platform for transport policy issues. As of 1 August 2011, Coune, a Belgian national, takes over from Jack Short, who is retiring, as leader of the Paris-based intergovernmental organization which brings together 52 nations from around the globe.

Gary Gonzales has been named a senior principal engineer in the Denver office of Parsons Brinckerhoff. He has more than 20 years of experience working on Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and Regional Transportation District (RTD) projects.
AC Propulsion announced the appointment of Susan Hoyle from interim chief financial officer to the permanent role of vice president & CFO. Hoyle took the interim position in August 2010 to assist with a $35 million fundraising effort and oversee the development of expanded internal controls and reporting within the finance function.
Paul Casey, senior service planner for the city of Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus, has been awarded the Swedish Institute's Swedish-American Bicentennial Fellowship. This prestigious grant recognizes Casey for his professional work and accomplishments at the Big Blue Bus for more than a decade. Casey's fellowship begins in the City of Malmo, Sweden, where he will conduct research on sustainable city planning.
Philip Klinkon, AIA, has joined HNTB Corp.'s West Division as transit studio leader, in which he will lead the division's transit architecture team, while also coordinating with the transit group in New York. Klinkon has more than 26 years of experience designing and managing complex, large and small scale transit, urban public and private sector projects.
Metro has appointed two executives to top positions in the organization: Lou Ann Hock as chief financial officer and Inez Evans as chief operations officer. Hock is responsible for Metro's $85.5 million annual operating budget, capital program, grants administration, fuel hedging and investments. Hock has served as Metro's interim chief financial officer since August 2010. Evans is responsible for all Metro fixed-route and Access paratransit bus operations, fleet maintenance and facilities, representing about 674 employees.
The board of directors of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which oversees all surface transportation in the city, including the Municipal Railway (Muni), introduced Edward D. Reiskin as the new director of tTransportation of the SFMTA, replacing Nathaniel P. Ford Sr.
