L.A. Metro Board approves final EIR for Eastside Transit Corridor Phase 2 Project; Updates from FTA, MTA, Metrolinx

The approval finalizes the EIR for the two-phased project that will extend the L.A. Metro E Line nine miles further east from its current terminus at Atlantic Station in east Los Angeles, Calif., to Lambert Station in Whittier.

The funding will support local planning and investment near transit hubs to promote sustainable, livable and equitable communities.
The authority has pursued many initiatives during the past year to improve fare evasion since the Blue Ribbon Panel on Fare Evasion issued a report outlining ways to reduce fare evasion in 2023.

TAPP, which was first introduced in 2023, is an open-loop contactless payment system that allows riders to use their own preferred method of contactless payment instead of a specific PATH-issued SmartLink card or a pay-per-ride MetroCard.
Through the strategic plan, VIA Rail Canada plans to generating savings equivalent to 15 percent of its operating deficit, reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent compared to 2005 and increasing its capacity by 18 percent.
The funding supports the development of a transition plan that will focus on examining the economic, technological and environmental benefits of fleet electrification while also identifying any risks and key barriers.
