Air purification devices are being installed on Capital Metro’s (CapMetro) bus fleet to help improve the customer experience by creating a healthier and safer environment.
The devices will better circulate clean air and reduce the chance of spreading airborne viruses.
The installations began in March and are estimated to be completed by the end of May. The agency also plans to install these devices on MetroAccess and MetroRail vehicles.
“We looked across the nation to bring the best safety technology and practices to our customers here in Texas,” said CapMetro Executive Vice President and Chief Safety Officer Gardner Tabon. “These devices are not only effective against airborne diseases, but they also create a cleaner experience for our customers which is also a priority for CapMetro.”
The device is made by United Safety and Survivability Corporation and is called Active Air Purification. This type of technology has been used in the medical community for decades. According to United Safety, the device eliminates more than 99 percent of germs, microbes, viruses, bacteria and volatile organic compounds in the air and on surfaces. The device requires minimal maintenance, other than replacing the UV bulb approximately once a year.
The Active Air Purification devices have been installed as part of a range of measures implemented by CapMetro to keep both customers and operators safe and healthy while using the transit agency’s services.
