UTA May Raise Fares for Trains and Buses

Riding UTA trains and buses could get more expensive.
The Utah Transit Authority is proposing an extra 25 cents for riders who pay the standard $1.75 fare. But the surcharge could go higher, depending on diesel prices.
The surcharge could take effect in July, following public hearings and possible action by the UTA board.
Riding the new FrontRunner train between Salt Lake City and Ogden could also cost more.
UTA says it could have a shortfall of more than $5 million if it doesn't add a surcharge. The agency says the price of diesel fuel is up more than 25 percent since Jan. 1.
