San Francisco Muni Vehicle Derails, Disrupts Service on J-Church and N-Judah Lines

San Jose Mercury News

CALIFORNIA - A San Francisco Municipal Railway light-rail vehicle that derailed and struck the railing of a passenger-loading ramp just outside the tunnel at Church Street and Duboce Avenue this morning continues to disrupt service on two major Muni lines.

Muni spokesman Judson True said the J-Church and N-Judah lines will likely be affected for several hours, but crews are working to resume normal service for the afternoon commute.

The crash happened around 10 a.m.

As of 11:35 a.m., a tarp was draped over a damaged section of the rear of the derailed "rescue train," which was in the process of moving an out-of-service disabled train when the accident happened, according to True.

The rear of the rescue train jumped the tracks and struck the railing of an accessibility ramp used by passengers with disabilities.

There were no injuries, True said. An operator and a maintenance worker were on the disabled train and there was one operator on the rescue train.

Inbound trains on the N-Judah line are being rerouted to the J-Church line at Church and 16th streets where customers will have access to the underground lines at Church Street station.
