Dr. Plourde, president, principal and chief operations officer of McMahon, has more than 35 years of experience in transportation engineering, planning and design. From the time he graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Villanova University in 1966, a master’s degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1968, and doctorate degree in transportation engineering from MIT in 1971, his career has encompassed professional service to clients in the Mid-Atlantic, New England and Florida regions; voluntary service to several engineering societies; and voluntary service and leadership roles to his community. He holds a Professional Engineering license in 11 states.
Since joining McMahon in 1991, he has proven to be an invaluable asset to the firm. Recognized for his business knowledge, technical expertise and commitment to McMahon, Dr. Plourde was promoted to the corporate position of president in 2002 and entrusted with the responsibility of managing the business of this high-growth traffic engineering firm. He also oversees major company projects, including contractual administration, top-level management and technical assistance, and coordination with the client and public.
In addition to serving seven departments of transportation, regional transportation agencies, and local governments, as well as numerous private clients, Dr. Plourde has been involved and active in several professional organizations. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, including both its Philadelphia and Boston Sections; the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE); the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE), including the Valley Forge Chapter; the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE); the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), including the its Mid-Atlantic Section (MASITE); the American Council of Engineering Companies of PA (ACEC/PA); and the Pennsylvania Planning Association.
Dr. Plourde has also been involved in several civic organizations and served on local municipal boards throughout the years. He has been married for 38 years to his wife, Madeline, and they reside in Chester County, Pa., in the Exton area. He is a proud father of son, Matthew, and enjoys boating, fishing and reading.
