Veolia Transportation acquires Professional Transit Management

Veolia Transportation has announced its purchase of Cincinnati-based Professional Transit Management (PTM). The effective date of the acquisition was Tuesday, January 1, 2008.

"This is a great opportunity for Veolia," said Mark Joseph, vice chair and CEO of Veolia Transportation. "From the very first conversation with the team at PTM, we found we share the same commitments — to customers, employees and quality of service. These values are at the very heart of Veolia, and it is exciting to see that same track record and commitment at PTM."

Added Thomas Hock, PTM CEO, "This partnership is going to provide us access to a number of valuable resources from Veolia's vast, global network. These resources and capabilities will make PTM an even stronger competitor and open more opportunities for both our employees and clients. I have been approached by several companies wanting to partner with us. When I met Mark Joseph, I felt we shared the same business philosophy and company values."

In the majority of Veolia's 130 contracts in the U.S. and Canada, the company is responsible for the full gamut of transit operations, providing contracted services to transit authorities. However, in addition to this large number of operating contracts, Veolia also has management contracts for four transit systems - Pensacola, Fla.; Phoenix, Ariz.; and Raleigh-Durham and Winston-Salem, N.C. These four contracts will be added to the 15 managed by PTM, as the PTM team will now serve as Veolia's transit management division.

Most of PTM senior executive team will remain in place. Thomas Hock will continue to serve as chief executive officer. Will Scott, currently serving PTM as vice president and region manager, has been promoted to president and COO. Mike Setzer, who served as PTM’s executive vice president, will continue in his current role, as well as take on an expanded role within Veolia, supporting the areas of business development and operations.
