Ansaldo STS USA Pens $24M NY Contract

As already communicated to the financial markets during the course of the quarterly investor conference call of 27 April, Ansaldo STS USA (ASTS) recently penned a $24 million (USD) subcontract to modernize the signal system for the Lexington Avenue and 5th Avenue interlocking in New York City.

ASTS will provide a relay-based wayside signaling system to replace and upgrade two current interlocking on the Queens Boulevard Line. In addition to meeting the latest New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) standards, the state-of-the-art system will be communications based train control (CBTC)-ready.

The project consists of more than 1,500 vital and non-vital relays, along with additional relay room equipment to control the interlockings. Redundant, non-vital, hot-standby code systems will provide automatic routing capabilities with emergency local control from the Lexington Avenue Relay Room and 5th Avenue Tower Room, as well as a manual pushbutton control within the Queensboro Plaza Master Signal Tower.

“We are pleased to partner with TC Electric on this effort,” said Dr. Alan E. Calegari, president and CEO of Ansaldo STS USA. “This 4-year contract is yet another indicator that Ansaldo STS USA continues its tradition in providing the New York City Transit Authority with a safe solution for their passengers.”
