Mass Transit Weekly Update 5/27/2016

This weeks transit update features videos from Alstom, the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) and TriMet.

Alstom highlighted its high speed rail technology, giving a look inside how the trains are configured and manufactured. The high and very high-speed sector, which is booming in all continents, constitutes one of the most promising fields in the railway market. 

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) hosted its local Rail Roadeo, the winning operator was selected to go on to compete at the International Rail Roadeo in Phoenix at the end of June. Operators were tested on their skills on and around the trains. For the first time ever, the winner was a woman—MTA's Charmel Richard

Los Angeles Metro’s 2nd Hope Station is currently undergoing construction, the station is part of the regional connector program, extending the Metro Rail. The new 2nd Pl/Hope St Station will sit west of The Broad museum (under construction), surrounded by nationally recognized performing arts centers and museums. 

TriMet honored its best bus and MAX Light Rail operators as well as inducted six bus and rail operators into the Million Mile Club for safe driving. Bus and MAX operators qualify for operator of the year awards based on outstanding driving records, customer service and attendance. They were Jeffery Evans, MAX Operator of the Year; Alex Ohly, Bus Operator of the Year; Justina Carrillo, Part-Time Operator of the Year.
