Jan. 12, 2015
Transport for London (TfL) has increased capacity by 20 percent meaning a faster and more reliable service.

Transport for London (TfL) has increased capacity by 20 percent meaning a faster and more reliable service.

Rebuilding work is happening right across the network.

In addition to improvements already delivered, there are far more underway and planned:

  • A new signalling system on the Northern line will increase capacity and frequency of trains, and make journeys faster by December 2014
  • A fleet of new air-conditioned walk-through trains have been introduced on the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines and are now being introduced on the District line. The entire Metropolitan line fleet is now made up of these trains
  • Major projects to rebuild Tottenham Court Road, Victoria and Bond Street stations will increase capacity, add step-free access and make your journeys faster
  • Further projects to modernise our busiest stations are planned for Bank, Holborn and Camden Town which will be completed in the early 2020s
  • We'll increase the number of trains on the Jubilee and Victoria lines up to 36 trains per hour (a train every 100 seconds) in the peak hours over the next six years
  • Boarding ramps and platform humps will be introduced at more stations to increase accessibility
  • From 2015, we'll be running a 24-hour service at weekends on core parts of five of our lines - and looking to increase this to other parts of the network after that
  • We're planning new trains and signalling for the Piccadilly, Bakerloo, Central and Waterloo & City lines. The Piccadilly line will lead the way, with work on signalling beginning in 2019 and the first new trains in service in 2022
