OKLAHOMA - The city of Edmond rolled out its new transit system Wednesday, with a new name and new routes, but no new buses just yet.
Citylink replaces the Eddy Trolley Service, the Broncho bus is now called Edmond Link and the Express Route will be Express Link, said Shannon Entz, Edmond's community development block grant coordinator.
City Manager Larry Stevens said, "It's a major positive step in the direction of better service, more riders and increased reliability."
The new bus service is free.
But delivery of the city's eight new paratransit buses is delayed. Stevens said Edmond's former transit provider, Metro Transit, has agreed to lease six vehicles at $200 a month each to the city until the buses are delivered.
Two 36-seat buses will be leased from CoachCrafters Inc. for $3,500 a month for the Edmond Express route that makes roundtrips daily to downtown Oklahoma City and the state Capitol area.
"The new buses should be here in about 90 days," Entz said. "That depends on how quickly we receive the stimulus funds."
