CH2M Hill announces that Tim Neuman has been named a senior fellow technologist. Neuman is the first transportation technologist to achieve this top-level career achievement, and he joins the esteemed company of four other active senior fellows at CH2M Hill. Neuman has more than three decades of experience, planning and designing major highways, freeways and more than 300 interchanges across the United States. He is a nationally recognized expert in highway safety and traffic operations related to geometric and context sensitive design, and he has led or participated in many significant research projects for the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) and the Federal Highway Administration.

Recently, Hartmut Schick, head of Daimler Buses Worldwide, announced the appointment of Richard Ferguson as head of Daimler Buses North America effective Jan. 1, 2010. Ferguson will succeed Dr. Andreas Strecker, the current president and CEO. Dr. Strecker assumed responsibility of the North American bus management for Daimler in 2002. In his eighth year, Strecker has reestablished the brands Orion, Setra and Sprinter in North America — even recently announcing the hybrid leadership of the Orion transit bus brand. Ferguson is no stranger to the North American bus industry having served as the CFO for the then Orion Bus Industries from 2000 to 2003. Ferguson later went on to serve as president of Daimler’s North American pre-owned truck operations and was subsequently promoted to vice president of sales for Freightliner and Western Star Trucks, the position he currently holds.

The Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) board of directors announces the reappointment of board members and re-election of its current officers for 2010. Robert (Bob) Parmelee was re-elected chairman; Gary Cumbie will continue to serve as vice chairman; and Gary Havener was re-elected secretary. Parmelee is a principal with Williams, McClure and Parmelee, P.C., a Fort Worth law firm. Cumbie, special assistant to the chancellor, Tarrant County College, was appointed to the board in 2007. Havener, a Fort Worth developer, has served on The T board since 2002.

New Flyer Industries Inc. announced that Pat Jacobsen has been invited and has agreed to join its board of directors. Jacobsen also sits on the boards of Revera Inc., Port Metro Vancouver and the BC Cancer Foundation. Jacobsen served as the CEO of TransLink in Vancouver, BC, from 2001 to 2008 before retiring. During her tenure at TransLink, Jacobsen demonstrated planning and strategic leadership which led to ridership increases, new major capital projects and Canada’s first transit police force, which improved safety and security for operators and passengers. TransLink is the 11th largest transit system in Canada and the U.S. and provides more than 300 million passenger trips per year.

The National Safety Council (NSC) has elected Mike Murray, president and CEO of FirstGroup America to its board of directors. The NSC announced Murray’s appointment at the 2009 Congress and Expo held October 25 – 30, 2009, in Orlando, Fla. As a board member, Murray will help guide NSC’s overall strategy. He will also serve as a trustee for the organization, assisting with the group’s development and fundraising activities. Murray’s term as a board member runs through 2010. Murray has more than 22 years of experience in the transportation business, including nine with FirstGroup America. In his current role, Murray oversees the $4.8 billion transportation company and its nearly 100,000 employees across North America. He is a member of the American Public Transportation Association. Murray holds a BA from Xavier University, master’s from The Ohio State University and a law degree from Northern Kentucky University (NKU).

Nick Flew has been appointed managing director of the UK and European operations of Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global infrastructure strategic consulting, planning, engineering and program/construction management organization. Flew was previously director of Balfour Beatty Management, the UK-based professional services business of Balfour Beatty, which acquired Parsons Brinckerhoff recently. Flew played a key role in the acquisition of Parsons Brinckerhoff and in his new position will lead the integration of the operations of Balfour Beatty Management and the UK/Europe operation of Parsons Brinckerhoff. Flew has 28 years of technical and management experience across a range of different sectors in the UK and internationally. He is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a member of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management. He joined Balfour Beatty Management from Atkins in 2004. Flew graduated from Cambridge University in 1981 with a degree in engineering.

Governor Pat Quinn appointed a public interest attorney and an environmental policy professional to the board of the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). Joining the transit board is John Bouman, president of the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, and Katie McClain, Chicago City Director of the Clinton Climate Initiative for the William J. Clinton Foundation. Bouman has run the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law since 1996, where he served as president and as director of advocacy for the center. Serving as a public interest attorney since 1975, Bouman has forged numerous working relationships with community groups, policymakers and all branches of government throughout his career. McClain has been Chicago city director of the Clinton Climate Initiative of the William J. Clinton Foundation since 2007. At the foundation, McClain has worked on the implementation of environmental policy and green initiatives at the state and local levels of government. Specifically, she has worked to advance the use of carbon-neutral transportation technologies in urban areas. Prior to joining the Clinton Foundation, McClain was a senior policy advisor to then-Lt. Governor Quinn.
