This December, residents of Nassau County will have a new mobility option to get to and from downtown Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Transportation Authority Board of Directors approved an Interlocal Agreement with the Nassau County Council on Aging, Inc. for express route service which will enhance regional mobility for one of the fastest growing areas in Northeast Florida.

The Agreement will allow JTA, in collaboration with Nassau County Council on Aging (NCCOA)/NassauTRANSIT and the Florida Department of Transportation, to develop a premier service interconnecting Nassau and Duval Counties.

“Public transportation provides an affordable and reliable mobility option that connects people to jobs, education, healthcare, entertainment and more,” said JTA Chief Executive Officer Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. “JTA is pleased to offer Nassau County residents a new direct and convenient mobility option that provides more access to downtown and the Nassau community.”

The Regional Express Bus Service will launch on Monday, December 3, 2018 and will provide direct service from Yulee to downtown Jacksonville.

“We are excited about offering another public transportation option to all residents in Nassau County,” said Janice Ancrum, NCCOA president and CEO. “JTA has the expertise and resources to leverage NassauTRANSIT’s mobility services within and across our own county.”

The Nassau-Duval Regional Express Bus Service is funded for the first three years by FDOT. JTA will manage the contracted service, providing two morning and three evening trips. To enhance the customer experience, vehicles will be equipped with complimentary WiFi and real-time passenger information through NextBus.

Wi-Fi allows JTA customers to manage their mobile devices while on board and turn their commute into productive time. To log on, simply select JTA’s Wi-Fi network, JTAconnect, and follow the directions. NextBus is a time-saving initiative that gives customers the estimated arrival time of the bus at their stop. Customers are able to manage their schedules and reduce wait times at bus stops.
