Beginning Sunday, June 24, 2018, a new stop on the Kings Dominion Express 102X will service the town of Ashland, Virginia.

Beginning Sunday, June 24, 2018, a new stop on the Kings Dominion Express 102X will service the town of Ashland, Virginia. This route adjustment provides a direct way for employees and riders from Ashland to conveniently connect with jobs or entertainment at Kings Dominion seasonally between Spring and Fall.

Town Manager, Josh Farrar, said, “We understand that many Ashland residents lack access to quality reliable transportation.  We are hopeful this partnership between Kings Dominion, GRTC, and the Town will serve as a great pilot project to help us better understand the need within the community, and whether ridership warrants continuation or expansion in the future.”

GRTC’s CEO David Green said, “Our service allows guests of Kings Dominion to enjoy a convenient ride to and from the park. We also enable Kings Dominion employees to reliably get to and from work, and we are glad to welcome Ashland riders aboard later this month.”

Ashland passengers will board the 102x Kings Dominion Express at a new bus stop on Junction Drive in front of the Roses department store at the Ashland Junction Shopping Center. Express service will continue onward to Kings Dominion, then return to Ashland and proceed south to Downtown Richmond.

The fare for Kings Dominion employees (with employee ID) is $3.00 per trip. The general public fare is only $5.00 per trip, allowing park visitors to avoid the cost of gas and parking, save wear and tear on their cars, and fully relax by letting someone else do the driving when they visit Kings Dominion, a great destination for family fun!

The 102x remains an exemplary success story of a positive public-private partnership that fosters employment opportunities for youth and has increased ridership for GRTC.
