Carl Sedoryk, general manager/CEO of Monterey-Salinas Transit and a longtime public transportation leader at both the state and national levels, was announced as the new chair of the California Transit Association.

Carl Sedoryk, general manager/CEO of Monterey-Salinas Transit and a longtime public transportation leader at both the state and national levels, was announced as the new chair of the California Transit Association. The announcement was made during the closing session of the Association’s annual conference, held November 8-10 in Riverside.

Sedoryk will serve a two-year term leading the Association’s 25-member Executive Committee, on which he has served since 2007, including the past two years as vice vhair. He has participated on several of the Association’s standing committees and task forces, including those charged with providing technical assessment and guidance on legislative and regulatory proposals impacting public transit in California. In addition, Sedoryk recently completed a three-year term on the Executive Committee of the Washington, D.C.-based American Public Transportation Association.

“Carl has been an active and effective member of our organization for many years,” said California Transit Association Executive Director Joshua W. Shaw. “We’re looking forward to continuing our advocacy successes, and further enhancing our association services under Carl’s leadership.”

The California Transit Association is comprised of nearly 250 member organizations, including all of the state’s largest urban transit operators, as well as dozens of transit agencies in suburban and rural areas. Its membership also extends to include commuter rail agencies, transit support groups, national and international transit suppliers, and government agencies. The Association is the leading advocate on behalf of public transit in California, representing transit's interests before the California State Legislature, the Governor and regulatory agencies on the local, state and federal levels.

“It's an honor to be selected by my peers to lead this association as we find ways to protect existing transit funding, work out strategies to deploy zero-emission vehicles and to keep the association healthy and sustainable," said Sedoryk, whose election as chair followed the installation of the 2017-2019 Executive Committee.
