BYD unveiled the world’s first 45 foot battery-electric commuter coach bus at this year’s APTA Expo.

BYD unveiled the world’s first 45 foot battery-electric commuter coach bus at this year’s APTA Expo. Additionally, BYD hosted the largest ever electric vehicle display at APTA Expo, a testament to the company’s position as the world’s largest electric bus manufacturer with more than 27,000 electric buses in service around the globe.

BYD showcased four models of its advanced technology battery-electric buses in addition to a class 5 battery-electric truck and forklift at the 2017 APTA Expo.

“BYD offers a battery electric bus or coach to meet any operational or service route need a transit agency has in North America,” said BYD Heavy Industries Senior Vice President Macy Neshati. “Our buses reduce operating costs for customers due to BYD’s advanced battery-electric technology and that translates into large savings over the 12-year life of a bus. We also offer the industry’s only 12-year battery warranty so customers can have complete peace of mind when purchasing a BYD bus.”

BYD’s APTA Expo 2017 vehicle display included:

  • 60 foot Articulated Transit Bus
  • 40 foot Transit Bus
  • 35 foot Double Decker Transit Bus
  • 45 foot Motor Coach
  • Class 5 Cab Chassis Truck
  • BYD battery-electric, zero-emission forklift

BYD has deployed more than 137 battery-electric buses across the country to customers including LA Metro, Los Angeles Department of Transportation, Stanford University, UCLA, UC San Francisco, UC Irvine, Anaheim Resort Transportation, Long Beach Transit, Denver Regional Transportation District, City of Albuquerque, SolTrans, SunLine Transit, Link Transit, COMO Connect, Antelope Valley Transit Authority, and many others across North America.

In response to high demand across North America for its advanced technology buses, BYD recently completed an expansion of its Coach and Bus manufacturing facility in the City of Lancaster, Los Angeles County, California. This expansion will allow the company to build up to 1,500 battery-electric buses annually once operating at full capacity. BYD has nearly 800 employees in California that contribute to building its battery packs and buses and assembling its trucks. BYD’s mission is to provide innovative solutions with its battery-electric buses, trucks, forklifts and many other products to meet real-world demands.

The BYD Coach and Bus facility also supports R&D and assembly for BYD’s battery-electric medium- and heavy-duty trucks, including delivery, drayage, refuse, and yard trucks, among other product lines. These trucks incorporate the same proven core components that are used in BYD’s commercialized buses and vehicles with several hundred million service-proven miles.  By the end of 2017, BYD will have delivered 70 all-electric trucks to 15 customers in North America, with orders for more than 140 trucks to-date.
