Capital Metro has announced it will host a series of public outreach meetings beginning Sept. 25 to introduce the Austin region to what would be the most significant transformation of its bus network in the agency’s 32-year history. The proposed changes, if approved by the board of directors Nov. 15, would go into effect in June 2018.

The transit agency began preparation for this change in October 2015, when planners initiated work on the Connections 2025 Transit Plan. If approved, the proposal would bring changes to more than half of Capital Metro’s 82 bus routes. The High-Frequency Network would increase from six to 14 routes, improving bus frequencies to 15-minute intervals, seven days a week. The changes would also greatly improve east-west connections.

“We’re excited to present these plans to the public,” said Todd Hemingson, the agency’s vice president of planning and strategic development. “We believe strongly in the new network and are looking forward to the chance to let our riders and everyone else in the Austin area know more about it.”
