The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA), in partnership with the Kansas City Veterans Administration and the Veterans Community Project, honored veterans by announcing free fares for all area veterans at a news conference on March 20, 2017, at the World War I Museum. The initiative is being sponsored by the Greater Kansas City Labor Unions/AFL-CIO.

Many elected officials and distinguished military personnel are expected to be in attendance. Speakers will include U.S. Congressman Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.), Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor Sly James and Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr., and others.
