The Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA) recently welcomed a new member to its board of directors. Palmdale City Councilmember Austin Bishop was appointed to serve on the AVTA board by a unanimous vote of the Palmdale City Council at its January 4 meeting, and was officially sworn in on January 24 during AVTA's monthly board meeting.

Councilmember Bishop is one of six members of the AVTA board, which is comprised of representatives from the cities of Palmdale, Lancaster and the county of Los Angeles. Councilmember Bishop is filling the seat left vacant by former board member Fred Thompson, who was recognized during the meeting for his years of service to AVTA.

“Public transportation is a vital service that our citizens depend on in their daily lives, and oversight of the transit system by the board is an important responsibility,” said AVTA Board Chairman Marvin Crist. “Austin Bishop brings a fresh energy to our board that will keep us moving in the right direction, and in the best interests of the residents we serve.”

Councilmember Bishop started his own printing business when he was 25 years old. His company focuses on helping businesses and non-profits succeed in meeting their goals to make the Antelope Valley a better place to live and work. Through his business, he provides quality, skilled jobs to local residents. Prior to owning his own business, Bishop worked in the motion picture industry and as an IBEW electrician. Dedicated to public safety, Bishop volunteers his time as a board member of the Antelope Valley Sheriff’s Boosters, working to ensure that local deputies have the resources they need to keep the community safe.

Councilmember Bishop has been a Palmdale resident for more than 20 years and looks forward to serving the city and providing a better quality of life for its residents.
