Michael Powers has joined HNTB Corporation as rail program manager, based in the firm’s Arlington, Virginia, office. He is responsible for delivering program management services, including strategic planning, and alternative delivery, to the firm’s rail transit clients.

With 30 years of industry experience, Powers specializes in major transit project delivery emphasizing design-build delivery and procurement. He was instrumental in assisting the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority with its first design build project and most recently managed a design-build procurement package for a new WMATA station.

“As rail transit plays an increasingly pivotal role in mobility for our region’s transportation network, Mike’s experience will support our clients’ goals to develop a fully integrated multimodal system for travel,” said Nick Antonucci, PE, mid-Atlantic district leader and vice president. “His understanding of design-build delivery opens doors to important rail projects that would not happen with traditional models.”

Prior to joining HNTB, Powers served as a senior program and project manager for another consulting firm. His extensive experience in the mid-Atlantic includes John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts access improvements, L’Enfant Promenade Urban Planning Study and Environmental Assessment for the Federal Highway Administration’s Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division, and over $800 million in infrastructure and facility improvements utilizing design-build services for WMATA including the recently dedicated Metro Transit Police Department’s District II Headquarters.

Powers earned a Bachelor of Science in landscape architecture from Purdue University.
