UTA Officers Deliver Gifts to Refugee Kids

Jan. 5, 2017
Members of the Utah Transit Authority's (UTA) Transit Police Department paused their usual patrols on Christmas Eve to pay a special visit to a local refugee community.

Lt. Paul Nielsen said they met the children when working in the area, which is located near the S-Line. After meeting the friendly and curious kids, the officers decided to collect money among themselves and bring the children Christmas gifts.

“They just really touched our hearts,” Nielsen said.

UTA Transit Police officers and staff donated more than $600 to provide Christmas gifts to the children. This is one of the departments’ many community outreach efforts. They also serve dinner monthly at the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Hall and raise money for other local charities.
