The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) announces the second installment of AC Go – AC Transit’s unprecedented expansion of service which initially launched in June 2016. In this phase, riders will experience all new Line 19 with service to the City of Alameda, extending Line 14 to the West Oakland BART station, and streamlining Line 617 to Skyline High School.

“December’s service enhancement not only embody AC Go’s commitment to placing more buses on the streets of the 22 cities and unincorporated areas of our operating district but each enhancement is rider focused,” said AC Transit Board President, H. E. Christian Peeples. “In fact, in Alameda riders requested and received three different new bus route options and it was the community that chose service along Buena Vista Avenue.”

“Nearly 200,000 daily riders traveled 215 million passenger miles this year alone,” says General Manager, Michael Hursh. “So, AC Go is a comprehensive commitment to improve on-time performance and reliability. To meet that, we will launch two other bus service enhancements in the coming months, as well as invest $25.4 million annually to support this full contingency of service enhancements.”

New Bus Line 19

  • Line 19 begins service at the Fruitvale BART station and travels into Alameda’s Fernside neighborhood – along Buena Vista Avenue – through the Posey Tube and ultimately ending at Oakland City Hall.
  • Service will operate from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. seven days a week.
  • Weekday frequency is every 20 minutes during peak hours and 30 minutes during off-peak hours.
  • Weekend frequency will be every 30 minutes.

Extended Bus Line 14

  • Line 14 travels its existing comprehensive route but no longer ends at 11th and Jefferson Streets. The line now extends to the West Oakland BART station.
  • Weekday starting operating hours will not begin at 5:00 a.m. An increase from the original start time of 6:15 a.m.
  • Weekday ending hours extend from 10:00 p.m. to midnight.
  • Weekend service will begin at 6:30 a.m. thru 10:00 p.m.
  • Line 14 will continue to offer frequency every 15 minutes during weekday operations.
  • Line 14 frequency increases to every 20 minutes during weekend operations.

Streamlined Bus Line 617

  • Line 617 augments the existing Line 650 to provide improved access to Skyline High School.
  • Under this service enhancement, the first bus of the day will operate as Line 617 and departs Seminary Avenue and International Boulevard at 6:55 a.m.
  • This route directly enters the Skyline High School campus permitting riders to off-board directly in front of the school.

AC Go is the East Bay’s tax dollars at work. Voter approved Measure BB (or the Alameda County Transportation Commission sales tax) provides an estimated $30 million in annual tax revenues. This funding will increase AC Transit bus service by as much as 14 percent. Additional financial support for the all new Line 19 provided through a funding agreement with Alameda property developers.

This second phase of AC Go takes effect Sunday, December 18th.
