The lightweight construction megatrend ensures excellent growth opportunities for aluminum as an industrial material. Aluminum 2016 in Düsseldorf, Germany will reveal how the market for lightweight materials continues to grow. From November 29 to December 1, 2016, this event will bring together 1,000 exhibitors from 50 nations and 27,000 decision makers. With the event, Reed Exhibitions — the world’s leading organizer of trade shows and conventions — will hold the world’s largest industry event related to aluminum activities in the Europe.

Seven questions to Olaf Freier Event, Event Director at Reed Exhibitions.

1. How did you come to choose Duesseldorf as the place to host your show?

With more than 17 million inhabitants, the region of North Rhine-Westphalia is one of the largest conurbations in Europe. With Duesseldorf as the show’s venue we are in the center of a business hub: More than 750,000 businesses — among them 21 of Germany's 50 largest companies — are active in this region. At the same time we are placed in the middle of the European aluminum and application industries.

2. Who is your target audience for this event?

Aluminum addresses producers and processors of aluminum as well as engineers and developers from the automotive and aerospace industries, from shipbuilding, the building and construction sector or the packaging line — all aluminum application industries.

3. What makes your event special and in what way will your audience benefit from your show?

The uniqueness of the show results from the fact, that it represents the entire value chain offering solutions for the aluminum industry and all applications fields. Taking a look around the stands, you’ll find mostly applications from the automotive, transport, engineering, building and packaging sectors.

4. Will the show also feature education?

Yes, Aluminum is a major knowledge hub: expert presenters from industry and science will discuss the principles, trends and innovations of the aluminium sector. The Aluminum 2016 Conference will focus on the material’s future prospects. In more than 40 lectures, materials experts will explore the possibilities in the aluminium-processing industry and in user markets. Exhibitors from the U.S., the United Kingdom, Russia, China and Germany themselves will take the podium at the Aluminum Forum introducing their innovations and successful projects.

5. What’s new at this year’s show?

2016 we will launch our Lightweight Technologies Forum, which dedicates to multi-material lightweight construction. The new event will be held as part of Aluminum and the concurrent Composites Europe trade fair. Combining an exhibition and a presentation forum, the event will serve as the cross-material interface between metal and fibre-reinforced composite technologies in structural components.

The digital transformation will be another new topic at Aluminum. In the new special area “Smart Factory” we will inform about the trend.

6. The Aluminum show is taking place in various part of the world. What does make Aluminum Duesseldorf special?

Aluminum is a worldwide brand. Starting in 1997, the German Aluminum show has become the World Trade Fair for the industry, flanked by aluminum shows in China, India, Dubai, Brazil and — since 2015 — the United States. Today, the brand Aluminum is the largest global network of the aluminum industry, bringing together more than 2,000 companies and 50,000 experts. The different events showcase the strengths of their markets. The Aluminum in Germany is the hub of the worldwide branch.
