CapeFlyer Announces End to Successful Summer Season with Ridership Increase

Sept. 30, 2016
The CapeFlyer concluded its successful fourth season carrying 13,663 passengers - an increase over last year's ridership.

The CapeFlyer concluded its successful fourth season carrying 13,663 passengers - an increase over last year's ridership. The CapeFlyer ran for 16 weekends in 2015 as opposed to 15 weekends this year; that said, in 2016: the CapeFlyer carried more passengers in total than in 2015, averaged 9.2% more riders per round trip in 2016 and carried 8.3% more riders when adjusting for the same number of weekends (15) in 2016.

"When I greeted trains in Buzzards Bay and Hyannis this season, I was truly overwhelmed with the positive reactions from our customers.  We strive to make the CapeFlyer a special experience so a person's vacation to the Cape and Islands can begin as soon as they get on-board - from the feedback of our customers, we are confident that this was our best year to-date," said Cape Cod Regional Transit Administrator Thomas S. Cahir.  "My team will immediately start reviewing the season to see how we can make the service even more successful in 2017."

The service has been successful, in part, because of the many partnerships formed over the last 4 years.  Some of these organizations include the MBTA, Keolis, Blonde on the Run Catering, Hy-Line Cruises, Steamship Authority, Cape Cod Baseball League, Hampton Inn and Suites, Onset Bay Association, Cape Cod Beer, Uber, Zip Car, Streamline Events, Cape Cod Cares for the Troops, Max Triathlon, Pan Mass Challenge, GreenStreets Initiatives, A Better City TMA, Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District, HyArts District, Nantucket Yoga Fest, Cape Cod Canal Fest, Cape Cod Arts Foundation, Woods Hole Film Festival, Nantucket Book Festival, Nantucket Film Festival, Falmouth Road Race, and the many Chambers of Commerce.
